Tapa is based on petroglyphs that depicted important events, religious lessons or known stories. Originally printed on a cloth made from pounded bark, it is today used to refer to shirts made from thicker fabrics. "Ali'i" refers "Lord" or even "Prince" in Hawaiian, and Kane is the Hawaiian diety of procreation and life. Ali'i Kane is thus the lord or rule of life.
